Patent Safe Printer Guide

Windows 7

  • Download the Patent Safe Drivers from the link below
    PatentSafeDrivers.zip
  • Unzip the file and place its contents in a place you can easily access later on in the process
  • Open the Devices and Printers window by going to: Start -> Devices and Printers

  • Click "Add Printer" from the top tool bar

  • Click the option to add a network printer

  • Click on the option to select an unlisted printer

  • Click on "Select shared printer by name", and fill in the URL with: https://ps.ebi.berkeley.edu/printers/default

  • After your computer connects the printer it will ask you to select your printer, click on the button saying "Have Disk"

  • Select the "PatentSF" file that you unzipped earlier by clicking "Browse"

  • Click "ok"

  • Select "Patent Safe (Letter)"

  • Click the "Install" button on the Windows Security Pop-up

  • After seeing that the printer has been installed, click "Next"

  • Click "Finish"

Windows 10

  • Download the Patent Safe Drivers from the link below
    PatentSafeDrivers.zip
  • Unzip the file and place its contents in a place you can easily access later on in the process
  • Open the Settings window by going to: Start -> Settings

  • Click “Devices”

  • Click "Add a printer or scanner”

  • Scroll down and click “The printer that I want wasn’t listed”

  • Select "Select shared printer by name", and fill in the URL with: https://ps.ebi.berkeley.edu/printers/default

  • Click the "Install" button on the Windows Security Pop-up

  • After seeing that the printer has been installed, click "Next"

Mac OSX

  • Download the Patent Safe Drivers from the link below

  • Unzip the file and place its contents in a place you can easily access later on in the process
  • Click on "Print and Scan" in the System Preferences Menu

  • Click the "+" symbol underneath the devices list

  • Right-click on the top grey toolbar and select "Customize Toolbar"

  • Drag the advanced icon to the toolbar

  • After it has finished attempting to look for printers, change the type to "Internet Printing Protocol (https)", put: https://ps.ebi.berkeley.edu/printers/default in the URL blank, and under Print Using choose "other"

  • Choose psletter.ppd from the files that you downloaded earlier and click "open"

  • Click "Add" in the lower right corner

  • Make sure that the printer shows up correctly in the list of printers on the left
